Winter At Watersedge 2025-26

Sunrise at Watersedge, January 27, 2026.

Moonrise at Watersedge, February 2, 2026.

Meteorologists say that winter starts on December 1st and ends when spring begins on March 1st, meteorologically speaking. For me, winter begins with the first measurable snowfall, or the appearance of a patch of ice underfoot, whichever comes first.

This winter season began early, when on November 9th and 10th of 2025, most of the Chicago area  got between 4 and 6 inches of snow.

And though covered in a layer of snow, much of the foliage still retained much of its autumnal splendor. The snow melted and fall lingered through Thanksgiving on November 27th.

December brought more snowfall and a winter playground.

    January, a beautifully quiet desolation.

Just when winter is over is a rather nuanced determination. Meteorologists say March 1st. For me, it's when it feels like the worst is over. This picture is from February 16, 2026, when we hit a high of 65 degrees, a record high for that date. February remained rather mild, and all in all it was a rather mild winter. I hope you enjoy this collection of pics of Winter At Watersedge Chicago, 2025-26.
